For lack of knowing what to call this page News page it is. We would like this page to be for News pertaining to environmental issues, ideas, question and answers, if something upsets you drop us e-mail and if we can we’ll put it on this page.

I’ll start with one thing that really bothers me is the plastic they put in the paper milk and juice containers. That is 3 pieces of plastic. Yes sometimes I do have trouble getting the cartoons opened but is it worth 3 pieces of plastic?

From the Hemp Food Industries Association I read “ U.S. COURT of APPEALS for the NINTH CIRCUIT- late yesterday the Court granted the hemp industry’s Motion to Stay the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA): Final Rule,” which was issued March 21, 2003 and would have banned the sale of nutritious hemp foods containing harmless trace amounts of naturally -occurring THC under the Controlled Substances Act (CSA) of 1970. This “Final Rule” is virtually identical to an “Interpretive Rule” issued on October 9, 2001 that never went into effect because of a Ninth Circuit Court Stay issued on March 7, 2002. I remember reading this in March of 2002. Seems they (DEA) want to stop the selling of products containing hemp seed, or hemp oil. I couldn’t believe it then and now it seems so ridiculous.

The HFIA do not condone use of any illegal drugs including marijuana, the HFIA do support nutrition facts to support the use of hemp food recipes. I found this on a web site www.hemp.co.uk/html/dealoose.html

Some hemp facts I found again on the web Hemp Industries Association (http://thehia.org):

“Hemp Seed is nutritious and contains more essential fatty acids than any other source, is second only to soybeans in complete protein (but is more digestible by humans), is high in B-vitamins, and is a good source of dietary fiber. Hemp seed is not psychoactive and cannot be used as a drug. See http://TestPledge.com"

“According to the Department of Energy, hemp as a biomass fuel producer requires the least specialized growing and processing procedures of all hemp products. The hydrocarbons in hemp can be processed into a wide range of biomass energy sources, from fuel pellets to liquid fuels and gas. Development of biofuels could significantly reduce our consumption of fossil fuels and nuclear power.”

"Hemp grows well without herbicides, fungicides, or pesticides. Almost half of the agricultural chemicals used on U.S. crops are applied to cotton.”

From an article I read in E Magazine on Sept/Oct. 2001 written by Jennifer Bogo Called Children at Risk she wrote “Environmental caused have been implicated in ailments from autism and attention deficit disorder to violent behavior, prompting widespread alarm among parents and activist groups and an unprecedented flood of research from the scientific community. “ The more we lean about chemicals,” says Dr. Gina Solomon, assistant clinical professor of medicine at the University of California-San Francisco, “the more we learn that very, very early in life is the most susceptible period.”

“Relative to their weight and size, children ingest more food, drink more water and breathe more air than adults.”

In the same article she wrote. “The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has identified 96 pesticides as potential human carcinogens, and one NCI study found that children whose parents used store-bought home and garden pesticides, the rate of leukemia was four to seven times greater."
